Long known as a local favorite for many years, Monica’s Mex-Tex/Cantina has even been recognized nationally by publications as a favorite hot spot in Dallas.

Monica grew up in Mexico City and cultivated her taste for Mexican food. After she moved to Dallas forty years ago, she started visiting local restaurants that sold the Tex-Mex foods. When she opened her restaurant, she decided she would make her own Mex-Tex dishes incorporating the recipes she brought from Mexico.

If you are a true connoisseur of tequila, you need to visit Bar Expert Jason. He makes some of the tastiest and wildest concoctions using exotic tequilas and mescals. This restaurant was known previously as Cedar’s so Jason has kept their signature cocktail, Cedars Old Fashioned, as a tribute to the previous bar.

Desperados Mexican Restaurant’s original menu was created in his mothers’ kitchen. Their goal was to bring original Mexican dishes from all over Mexico and introduce them to the Dallas foodies. Jorge likes to brag that they were one of the first restaurants that served ceviche.

Their community spirit is amazing as they have brought some great annual events. Their Cinco de Mayo celebration has been going on for eleven years. It is a three-day celebration with a 5k run, bicycle races, amusement rides and even a beauty contest. They also have a Margarita Contest/Festival that brings together thirty restaurants and bars to compete for the “Best Margarita in Dallas” award. They are also instrumental in the annual Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Parade where they generate revenue for college scholarships.

Taco Heads was the dream of Sarah Castillo in 2008. Her inspiration was to create an eating place where she could serve taco lovers what they crave. She consulted with her mother, Tinie, who loved the idea. She pulled out her multi-generational family recipes and got to work with Sara in the kitchen to create their one of a kind taco menu.

Now with partner Jacob Watson, Taco Heads is surly a Bucket List item for those who love tacos! They may only have forty-seven people who have raved about them on the world wide web but they have close to five stars.
